Volunteers

Over the last 10 years we have developed an organized stroke service with an acute stroke unit and a specialist stroke rehabilitation ward. We have made great improvements in treatment and rehabilitation, but there is still a lot to do. There are lots of things doctors, nurses, therapists, and managers can do to improve things, but many others need input from people who are not professionals, but whose lives have been affected by stroke.

We need help to improve the life of patients affected by stroke, their families and carers, and to develop services and treatments which can make a difference.

Would you like to help and become a volunteer?

There are many ways in which you could become involved, for example:

Support stroke patients and their families by visiting them in hospital and at home and sharing your experience with stroke.

  1. Set up a patient and carer group
  2. Provide information useful for life after stroke (how to get back to bowling, go out, get back to work, cope with PEG feeding, deal with communication problems…) over the phone.
  3. Help develop future stroke services by getting involved in strategic planning groups.
  4. Help shape and monitor current stroke services by contributing to clinical governance meetings
  5. Help us to find new treatments for stroke by getting involved in the planning, conduct and management of clinical studies.
  6. In addition to these there are many other ways to help. If there is anything you would like to do, please contact me to discuss possibilities.

Many roles may need some specialist knowledge and expertise. We are happy to provide training and support.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are interested to help.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
